PLEASE NOTE
Some funding sources allow for applicants to recoup pre-award expenditures, such as grant writer fees. An example would be the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). Under the AFG, "Fees for grant writers may be included as a pre-award or pre-application expenditure." This is something that should be kept in mind when making a decision to hire a grant writer. In addition, these fees cannot be payable on a contingency basis as they will not be eligible as a pre-application expense.
